Mukta Mehta, an eminent Indian Classical Music performer. I am an educator & Music trainer and the Founder of Pt. Bhimsen Joshi Sangeet Academy and Swar Kala Sangam Music Studio.
Born and brought up in Jammu, I had an inclination towards music since childhood. I was introduced to music at a very tender age of 4 by my father and Guru Prof. B.S.Bali, a disciple of Pandit Bhimsen Ji Joshi and thus have got the values of Kirana Gharana imbibed in my singing.
A music teacher by profession, I have dedicated my life to the World of Music and love to teach the children and imbibe them with the value and the love for Music. I am also instrumental in founding the Pt. Bhimsen Joshi Sangeet Acadamy in Gurgaon with the help and assistance of my father Prof. B.S.Bali along with Pandit Ji's both the sons - Jayant Joshi and Srinivas Joshi. The Acadamy is formed to inculcate the cultural values in not just today's children, but adults too. It aims to inculcate the values of “Kirana Gharana” Pt. Bhimsen Joshi's style of teaching in the children of today, with the vast knowledge and experience in the GURUS, and with the sharp and experimental attitude of today's generation, this combination can do wonders in the field of Music. It is said that “knowledge grows by sharing”, and the "GURUS" in the academy are selflessly committed to impart the training among the Shishya.
I have dedicated my life to the world of music and love to teach children to imbibe the values and love of Indian music. Since I started teaching, I have maintained a very warm, loving, and fun environment with my students. I believe that the best way to learn is by experimenting. I myself have been a self-participant in the learning curve of the children, thus "We Learn Together." I am fun-loving and cheerful by nature, and I am very passionate about classical music. I try to imbibe the same passion in my students. I am here to inculcate cultural values in today's children with the knowledge and experience gathered through the Gharana. As a teacher, one of my goals is to make students aware of themselves as learners and challenge their assumptions about learning. When students see me putting in effort and paying attention to them as individuals, they feel they owe it to me and to themselves to do their best. I may be a teacher in class, but some part of me is always a student. I constantly keep an eye out for everyone in the class, help them improve themselves, and guide them throughout the learning process. More than a teacher; I am a friend to them. Which gives them a comfort zone to learn music.
I feel that the children with the sharp and experimental attitude of today's generation can do wonders in the field of music if they are really trained well in the music classes. It is said that "knowledge grows by sharing," and as a trainer, I am selflessly committed to imparting the training amongst the students and making every day a "New Learning Day."
I am very passionate about Indian culture and various traditional art forms. My love for this led me to work with various NGOs. I am trying to give underprivileged children and adults the benefits of music education, and we are doing it free of charge. There are many underprivileged students I have in my academy, like house help, auto drivers, and many more. They are very talented, and I give them exposure through proper training. They learn quickly and with passion, thinking this could become their source of income too. I try my best to train them in a way so they can make their name in the field of music.
